Baja Mexico November 2013

After a great lunch, we headed to the mercado for food and tequila, gas and the water shop to fill up our tanks. Ionized water that tastes great and is really cheap. They even clean up your bottles for you! At the Pemex, we ran into our first sign that the Baja 1000 was approaching. A serious RockStar buggy rolled in to fill his tanks and I assure you, his truck was not smog legal. Then, we headed out of San Felipe and down the coast on Mex5 to Punta Buffeo. We spent a bit too much time in San Felipe and were rushing to get to camp before the sun went down. There are some incredible 'vados' which are dips in the road that can seriously bottom out your truck. Be careful when driving down Mex5.

We arrived at Punta Buffeo as the sun was setting and met Gordon. Over 30 years ago, he towed a 40 foot trailer down the dirt roads to this bit of paradise on beach. He added on a ramada that looks out over the sea and the views are stunning. He is lucky enough to spend a few months in Baja each year between skiing in the winter and kayaking during the summer. We slept on the roof of his ramada the first night and awoke to a glorious sunrise. We had arrived in Baja!

We took a morning walk along the beach exploring some tide pools. Lots of starfish, snails and hermit crabs. After some breakfast, we headed out on Gordon's boat to try our luck with fishing.
