Baja 2016

Ron and Enrique planned an NCLR (NorCal Land Rover) Club expedition back to Baja in April 2016. I couldn't wait to get back to the beauty of Baja and brought Ella and JT with me on the trip. After getting logistics out of the way (Mex insurance, truck documents, kids passports) and the range rover ready, we headed south on Saturday, April 2nd. We spent the night with Molnars, good friends from college. The kids splashed around in the pool with their three girls and had a wonderful time. Made a few last minute stops including REI and then headed to the border.

We met up with the group at the Outlets by the Border, which is literally the last stop before crossing. Gassed up and ready, we had a drivers meeting and charged for Mexico. Of course we were stopped for inspection as we crossed with 7 loaded land rovers. As soon as we were across, we picked up Alex and Ivan, two members of the Baja Land Rover club and drove through Tijuana. We were quickly on the freeway heading south toward Ensenada. The freeway was much improved sicne the last time I was in TJ about 20 years ago.

As we approached Ensenada, we veered off the main highway and headed in the hills of the wine country. It is spectacular and feels just like Sonoma or Napa. We stopped by our first winery, Las Nubes, nestled in the hills and bought a few bottles to celebrate finally being in Baja.
